I've been upgrading my PC to improve it's position as a home theater monster, and after taking stuff apart and cleaning it/putting in new fans it would t start. Was getting ready to order a new MB and processor but I finally got it to work.
Crisis averted. New CPU cooler arrives tomorrow, SSD should be here sometime next week after being setup and optimized by a buddy of mine. Lightpack on order, hopefully here soon. Will post pics and deets when it's done for my fellow home theater opponauts.
For now, have an Elise

Process for computer that won't start after rebuild:
1. Turn it off and back on again
2. Hit the thing
3. Hit the thing again
4. Apply more force to the thing
5. Come back a few days later.
No shit, #5 has worked several times.

Yeah, I've had the exact same problem and used this solution. Seriously. I was almost in tears once after I spent every last penny I had on a hard drive to fix my PC when I was in college, then I was so mad I just left it. Came back the next day and it fired right up.

Build one this summer as soon as the 4770k was released. I was going to go for the Corsair 900D case but settled on the 800D since the computer didn't need to double as a spare bedroom for guests.
Next to the last PC I built.
It's next to the TV/home theater as my main gaming/theater PC.

It's amazing that 5 actually works as often as it does. I had my HTPC just refuse to start after a power outage. I thought the worst of it - something got fried, it didn't shut down properly so the SSD was damaged. I took the damn thing apart, rebuilt it, and it still didn't work. Gave up and went to go play games for a couple hours.
Came back later, hit the power button and the fucker just turned on like it was nothing.

Nice. Mine's actually pretty dated at this point. AMD Phenom II, nVidia GeForce GTX 560ti. It can handle pretty much any steam game on high or ultra high graphics. I play a lot of flight simulator (well, used to, but I still play from time to time) and that has always been the biggest resource hog. Hopefully the SSD will help.
It all sits in a Coolermaster HAF, which has done well. I just finally upgraded it to utilize all the fan slots, it definitely gets plenty of ventilation.

I was doing some maintenance on my rig last weekend, and nearly shat myself thinking something got screwed up. Silly me just forgot to move the Clear CMOS jumper back over (and I nearly had it back together at that point, so it was tough moving it without tearing the whole thing apart again).
Sorry, no better pics right now...that raptor isn't in there either, went to SSD myself. Worthwhile upgrade if you need the performance, or you're trying to breath life into an older machine. For most home users, it's a horrible waste of money if you don't take care of it.

Yeah, been there. I'm a computer guy, and have been building computers since I was a kid. Several years ago, I got to actually buy new components for my (now previous) rig. I put it together (some of which was obvious, like the RAM and cards, and some of it was new. I had never affixed a CPU to a MB before, so I was nervous as hell) in about an hour, said a brief prayer, plugged it in, turned it on...and nothing happened.
I was not pleased.
Long story short, I found out about having to occasionally reset the CMOS. I was pretty skeptical that a 5ish minute procedure was going to fix it, but I tried it anyway. Computer ran great through its life as my main rig.

I work in a shop...most customer machines are better behaved than my own. Thats what I get though, for having such a high end behemoth. Im grateful for it though, it makes it so I dont have to go to school for lab hours on poorly maintained Macs...
It was a little enbarrassing though...not a mistake I should be making.
